Jonathan D. Ross

United States Attorney // Eastern District of Arkansas

Jonathan D. Ross

Jonathan D. Ross was appointed as the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas by the United States District Court on March 17, 2022. He began his service in the district on February 5, 2018, as the First Assistant United States Attorney under U.S. Attorney Cody Hiland, who led the district from October 2017 through December 2020. Upon Hiland’s resignation, Ross assumed the role of Acting U.S. Attorney starting January 1, 2021, under the Vacancies Reform Act.

As U.S. Attorney, Mr. Ross serves as the top-ranking federal law enforcement official in the Eastern District of Arkansas, which covers 41 counties across three divisions—Northern, Central, and Delta. His office is responsible for prosecuting a broad spectrum of federal crimes, including terrorism, public corruption, child exploitation, violent crime, civil rights violations, white-collar and corporate crime, organized crime, firearms offenses, and narcotics. Additionally, the office represents the United States in civil cases and collects debts owed to the federal government.

A career prosecutor, Mr. Ross began his public service career on January 6, 2003, as a deputy prosecuting attorney for the State of Arkansas in the 6th Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney’s Office in Little Rock. There, he handled a diverse caseload involving narcotics trafficking, violent crime, crimes against children, sexual assault, and more. Over time, he developed expertise in financial crimes such as embezzlement, money laundering, and asset forfeiture. Mr. Ross continued in this role until June 30, 2012, when he became an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas. His work there included cases involving public corruption, wire fraud, tax crimes, and drug trafficking. In 2016, Mr. Ross transferred to the Eastern District of Texas as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, focusing on procurement fraud and crimes at a Bureau of Prisons facility.

Originally from Little Rock, Arkansas, Mr. Ross earned his Bachelor’s in Public Administration from the University of Central Arkansas in 1999 and his J.D. from the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2002.

Mr. Ross is deeply honored to serve as U.S. Attorney and is especially proud to honor the legacy of his paternal grandfather, Captain Edwin Lee Ross, who was killed in action at Mount Castre near La Haye-Du-Puits, France, on July 4, 1944, while serving as a Captain in Company K, 359th Infantry, 90th Infantry Division, U.S. Army.
