Michele Beckwith

Michele Beckwith serves as the Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of California. She has a long history with the office, having served as First Assistant U.S. Attorney from 2022 to 2025 and as Criminal Division Chief from 2019 to 2022. From 2016 to 2019, she held the role of Executive Assistant U.S. Attorney, where she supported the U.S. Attorney and First Assistant in managing the office and oversaw media relations, community outreach, and reentry programs.
Ms. Beckwith joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office in 2010 as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Special Prosecutions Unit, where she prosecuted cases involving sex trafficking, child exploitation, and fraud.
Before her time at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Ms. Beckwith clerked for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California. She also worked in private practice in California and Ohio. Ms. Beckwith graduated summa cum laude from Ohio University and earned her law degree with honors from The Ohio State University Moritz School of Law, where she was also a State Department Fellow in the Czech Republic.
