J. Bishop Grewell
Acting United States Attorney // District of Colorado
J. Bishop Grewell serves as the Acting United States Attorney for the District of Colorado, overseeing federal criminal prosecutions and civil litigation on behalf of the U.S. Government. In his role, he leads a team of more than 160 attorneys and professional staff, along with approximately 20 government contractors, ensuring the effective delivery of justice in the state.
Mr. Grewell joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office in 2010, driven by a strong belief in the importance of a justice system grounded in written laws applied impartially. Before becoming Acting U.S. Attorney, he held the position of chief of the Appellate Divisions for both the Districts of Colorado and Montana.
Mr. Grewell is a member of the Tenth Circuit’s Criminal Pattern Jury Instruction Committee and previously contributed to the Department of Justice’s Appellate Chiefs’ Working Group from 2019 to 2022. His distinguished service earned him the Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service in 2016.
A graduate of Stanford University, Yale University, and Northwestern Law School, Mr. Grewell began his legal career clerking for Judge Timothy Tymkovich of the Tenth Circuit. Prior to his work with the Department of Justice, he practiced law in Chicago, Illinois.
