Edward R. Martin, Jr.

Interim U.S. Attorney // District of Columbia

Edward R. Martin, Jr.

On January 20, 2025, just moments after Donald J. Trump took the oath of office as the 47th President of the United States, Edward R. Martin, Jr. was appointed and sworn in as the Interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.

Raised in rural New Jersey and later attending high school in Jersey City, Martin went on to earn a degree in English with a minor in Peace and Conflict Studies from the College of the Holy Cross. Following his undergraduate studies, he became a Thomas Watson Fellow in Indonesia and spent two years as a Rotary Scholar in Rome, where he earned a Bachelor of Philosophy from the Gregorian Pontifical University.

After completing his international studies, Martin moved to St. Louis, Missouri, to pursue law and ethics degrees at St. Louis University. Upon graduating from law school, he took on the role of Human Rights Office Director for the Catholic Archdiocese of St. Louis, overseeing legal clinics for low-income residents. He then clerked for Hon. Pasco M. Bowman, II on the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals before joining Bryan Cave LLP as an associate in their Washington D.C. and St. Louis offices.

For over twenty years, Martin has balanced his private law practice with a commitment to public service. His roles have included Chairman of the St. Louis Board of Election Commissioners, Chief of Staff to Missouri Governor Matt Blunt, and senior positions at the Eagle Forum Education and Legal Defense Fund, where he succeeded the late Phyllis Schlafly as President. Martin also served as Chairman of the Missouri Republican Party, a member of the Republican National Committee, and ran for elected office in Missouri.

Martin and his wife, an internal medicine physician specializing in geriatrics, are parents to four children.
