Alexander C. Van Hook

Alexander C. Van Hook serves as the Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Louisiana, where he leads the investigation and litigation of all criminal and civil cases brought on behalf of the United States. The Western District covers 42 of Louisiana’s 64 parishes, making up two-thirds of the state geographically.
Before stepping into the role of Acting U.S. Attorney on January 20, 2025, Mr. Van Hook held the position of First Assistant United States Attorney, where he oversaw both the Criminal and Civil Divisions of the office. He has also served in several leadership roles, including Special Counsel to the U.S. Attorney, Deputy Criminal Chief, and as the lead attorney for the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force. With a career focused on public corruption, asset forfeiture, money laundering, and other white-collar crimes, Mr. Van Hook has prosecuted a wide variety of criminal cases.
Mr. Van Hook has received notable recognition for his work, including the Executive Office of U.S. Attorneys Director’s Award for Superior Performance in 2002, following his prosecution of a U.S. national involved in a murder-for-hire plot in Haiti. He was honored again in 2010 for successfully prosecuting two state court judges in a public corruption case.
A graduate of Louisiana State University’s Paul M. Hebert Law Center in 1997, Mr. Van Hook earned honors such as membership in The Order of the Coif, Louisiana Law Review, and the Chancellor’s List. After law school, he clerked for the Honorable Tom Stagg of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, as well as for Chief Judge Henry A. Politz of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Mr. Van Hook also holds a 1993 degree from Centenary College of Louisiana.
