Daniel P. Bubar

Daniel P. Bubar is the Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, having assumed the role on February 3, 2025, following the resignation of U.S. Attorney Michael F. Easley, Jr. Under the Vacancy Reform Act, Mr. Bubar now serves as the lead federal law enforcement official for the 44 counties in the eastern part of North Carolina, overseeing the investigation and prosecution of federal crimes and the litigation of civil matters involving the United States in the district.
Before becoming Acting U.S. Attorney, Mr. Bubar held the position of First Assistant United States Attorney. He began his career with the U.S. Department of Justice in 2010 as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Western District of Virginia. In 2016, he joined the Eastern District of North Carolina’s Criminal Division. Mr. Bubar returned to Virginia in 2018, where he became First Assistant U.S. Attorney and served as Acting U.S. Attorney from September 2020 to October 2021. He returned to the Eastern District of North Carolina in December 2021 as First Assistant U.S. Attorney.
Before his government service, Mr. Bubar was an attorney at McGuireWoods LLP in Chicago from 2004 to 2010, practicing in the business and securities litigation group. He earned his undergraduate degree from Taylor University and his Juris Doctor from Notre Dame Law School.
