Felice Viti
Acting United States Attorney // District of Utah
Felice John Viti was appointed Acting United States Attorney for the District of Utah on February 17, 2025. As the chief federal law enforcement officer for the district, which spans 29 counties, he oversees the U.S. Attorney’s Office headquartered in Salt Lake City, along with a branch office in Southern Utah.
Before assuming the role of Acting U.S. Attorney, Mr. Viti served as the First Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Utah, a position he held since June 2022.
Mr. Viti has a distinguished public service career spanning over 41 years. He began in 1983 as an Assistant District Attorney in the Bronx, New York, where he took on several leadership roles. In 1990, he became an FBI special agent, investigating narcotics, white-collar crime, and public corruption cases. In 1992, he was named Utah Law Enforcement Officer of the Year. In 1995, Mr. Viti joined the United States Attorney’s Office in Utah, where he has held multiple leadership positions, including First Assistant U.S. Attorney, Executive Assistant U.S. Attorney, Criminal Chief, Chief of the General Crimes Section, and Chief of the Violent Crimes/Terrorism Section. Over the years, he has prosecuted a wide range of violent crime cases, including the high-profile Elizabeth Smart kidnapping case.
Mr. Viti has also participated in several details for the Department of Justice, including assignments in Bosnia-Herzegovina (2000), Baghdad, Iraq (2006), Military Commissions prosecutions of two high-value al-Qaeda detainees (2007-2010 and 2015-2016), and most recently, the Counterterrorism Section of the National Security Division at the DOJ (2020-2022).
Mr. Viti holds an undergraduate degree from Columbia College (1979) and a law degree from Fordham Law School (1983).
