Do I Need a U.S. Law Firm if I am Facing Litigation in the United States?

How is Litigation in the U.S. Different from Litigation in Dubai?

While there are some similarities between litigation in the U.S. and Dubai, there are also several major differences. While the U.S. and the UAE both have two levels of judicial systems (federal and state in the U.S. and federal and local in the UAE), there are both substantive and procedural differences between how the courts operate in the U.S. and how they operate in Dubai and other emirates.

What Happens if I Don’t Respond to a Lawsuit in the U.S.

If you fail to respond to a lawsuit in the U.S., you risk having the court issue a default judgment in the plaintiff’s favor. If the court issues a default judgment, the plaintiff can then pursue collection of the damages awarded.

Can Dubai Citizens Be Extradited to the U.S. for Trial

TYes, Dubai citizens can be extradited to the U.S. for trial. The UAE government has discretion to extradite citizens even when a bilateral extradition treaty is not in place; and, in 2022, the U.S. and the UAE signed a first-of-its-kind mutual legal assistance treaty (MLAT) that is intended to, “enhanc[e] evidence sharing, judicial cooperation and assistance in criminal investigations and prosecutions.”
